(Ages 18-over). Join us for this 2-day field camp that will provide you with an overview of basic archaeological field techniques, class time on Loudoun County history (15,000 years ago to present) with actual artifacts retrieved from Loudoun County sites, and about 8 hours of actual time excavating test units at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve at a site that has previously yielded a quantity of prehistoric stone artifacts. You will be taught and guided by experienced archaeologists and have plenty of hands-on time excavating two or more test units at the lovely site overlooking scenic Goose Creek. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and a willingness to tolerate the usual Virginia summer heat while getting your hands and clothes dirty. This is a field camp, therefore preparation for multiple hours outside is a must (including potential use of the natural bathroom). This is a rare opportunity to work with professionals at Loudoun County's only nature preserve.

Bring a reusable water bottle, lunch, and snacks. Bring bug spray, hat, and sunglasses. Dress for the weather, this class will go on rain or shine.

Sign up through the PRCS on-line registration site (seats limited to 20).
