The Potowmack Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society Presents: Banshee Reeks Basic Seepage Swamp - Visit to a rare Natural Community

 

VNPS programs are free and open to the public, but reservations are required for field trips.

Preserve Manager Ron Circe will present an overview of Banshee Reeks and of the ecology of the Basic Seepage Swamp.  We will then ride in the hay wagon to the swamp, where Ron will lead us as we explore the unusual assemblage of plants at this site.  Bring lunch, for a picnic at the site. Banshee Reeks has the only identified Basic Seepage Swamp in the Piedmont.  A description of this plant community can be found at:

Ron Circe has earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biology, Ecology and Geology, and has worked as a research scientist, a principal in environmental consulting, and an adjunct professor.  He has published multiple journal articles and is a member of numerous ecological societies, including the Botanical Society of America.
